Philadelphia, Pennsylvania--America's Berthplace

During a cruise aboard the luxurious Seven Seas Navigator, we called on the Philadelphia area and the up-and-coming Port of Philadelphia and Camden--”America’s Berthplace.” Ideally situated near all of Philadelphia’s attractions, Norwegian Cruise Lines, Celebrity Cruises, and Holland America Line offer more than 20 cruises out of the port. Plus other lines like Radisson Seven Seas, Silversea Cruises, and Seabourn Cruise Line all choose to call on Philadelphia.

Highlights of our quick Philadelphia port call included: easy access from the port to all of downtown Philadelphia’s attractions; the bustling new National Constitution Center; the new Liberty Bell Center (including a great new location and display for the Liberty Bell); a tour of Citizens Bank Park, the great new stadium for the Philadelphia Phillies; and a fun “comfort food” lunch at a lively downtown restaurant called Jones. Of course, this region deserves much more than a short visit and that’s why pre- and post-cruise stays are so popular.

With a host of historic assets and other attractions, the Port of Philadelphia and Camden is definitely benefiting from the growth of closer-to-home cruising. “The cruise industry’s growth in Philadelphia literally represents a new line of tourism for the region with serious economic impact,” says Melissa Grimm, director of the port.

Popular land-based activities for cruise ship passengers include: tours of Independence National Historical Park and other historic downtown attractions and neighborhoods; Valley Forge; Amish Country; the Brandywine Valley; and so much more.
