Vermont -- Stratton Mountain and More

We just returned from Vermont’s Stratton Mountain, an Intrawest resort that’s home base for Olympic Gold Medalist snowboarder Ross Powers, snowboarding’s U.S. Open, and much more.

With wonderful early-December snowfalls, the conditions were obviously ideal for skiing and snowboarding, but Stratton Mountain offers lots of other pursuits day and night. Some interesting options we uncovered included: taking Stratton’s gondola to some stunning mountaintop snowshoeing options; cross-country skiing or snowshoeing to a cabin built by Pearl S. Buck; a wide array of dining and entertainment options (including popular Snow Cat dinners); a soothing spa; and the chance to dine at (and visit) Stratton’s highly successful private Stratton Mountain Club (which would make for a great story in upscale magazines).

Down in the nearby town of Manchester (home of upper-end outlet shopping and Orvis of fly-fishing fame), we visited the historic Equinox, where we had the opportunity to explore the new Avanyu Spa and try out the Off-Road Driving School in a Hummer H2. Operated by Country Pursuits, the year-round driving school would also be ideal for upscale magazines (as would the fly-fishing programs through their office or over at Orvis).

We returned from this Vermont visit with a number of great story and picture possibilities!
