CHIMNEY ROCK, NORTH CAROLINA: THE CHARMS OF CHIMNEY ROCK STATE PARK

With leisure travelers’ need today for multi-media entertainment, mind-boggling attractions, attention-deficit-enhancing amenities and offerings, and choices to make even the veteran traveler nauseous, a trip to Chimney Rock State Park is a welcome relief and a throwback to a kinder, gentler era.

Located in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, Chimney Rock has been giving visitors the opportunity to explore and experience nature’s wonders up-close and personal for more than 100 years. Unique geological formations, sweeping views, cooling waterfalls, hiking and climbing adventures, family fun areas, and flora and fauna that will constantly amaze…..you’ll find the best of the mountains in one place at Chimney Rock State Park

The charm continues with overnight stays in motor-court-like motels like the Carter Lodge.  Innkeepers Joe & Linda Carter run the 16-room motel overlooking the river and offer amenities including morning coffee, wireless internet, cable TV, advice and suggestions on how best to enjoy the area, and an unmatched convenience to town.

The town of Chimney Rock offers up shopping and dining in an old mountain façade that harkens back to the 1950s. From great sandwiches and salads at Old Rock Café just at the entrance gate to Chimney Rock State Park to the knick-knacks and must-haves at Gale’s Chimney Rock Shop to the requisite cone at the nearby ice cream parlor, a wander down Main Street is the social activity throughout the day or evening. But be prepared….the town rolls up early in the evening. But that’s just part of it’s charm.
