South Carolina’s Port
Royal Sound provides diverse destinations, various activities and stunning
scenery--all with a royal welcome and southern charm.
The Port Royal Sound area basically starts and runs from the Atlantic Ocean between bustling Hilton Head Island to the southwest and quiet St. Phillips Island to the northeast. The famed Intracoastal Waterway runs through the sound and several tributaries lead to popular waterfront destinations like Beaufort, Port Royal, Hunting Island, Hilton Head Island, Bluffton and Daufuskie Island
Beaufort is a beautiful spot to spend one or more days and nights. Highlights include: the bustling waterfront park and upscale shopping and dining along busy Bay Street; the Federal-style John Mark Verdier House Museum; the Beaufort Arsenal Museum; and lots of private historic homes simply found by wandering the pretty streets.
The pretty drive down
to Hunting Island, Hunting Island State Park, and the famed Hunting Island
Lighthouse is well worth it for the day (or a night or more in one of the
varied state park cabins). Hunting Island State Park consistently ranks as
the state’s most popular state park, and the 170-foot Hunting Island
Lighthouse is the state’s only publicly accessible historic lighthouse.
Port Royal is another daytrip destination. Exploration possibilities include the charming shops and restaurants of Old Village of Port Royal and nearby Marine base, Parris Island. Boating enthusiasts should check out Port Royal Landing Marina and their boat and kayak rentals.
Bluffton isn’t bluffing on its charm. From the elegant Inn at Palmetto Bluff , to the town walking tour and the Bluffton Oyster Company, Bluffton has a little something for everyone. A charming place to spend the day (or night).
Any Port Royal Sound
exploration has to include famed Hilton Head Island. One of the many allures
of Hilton Head Island is the number of world-class marinas offering full
services and lots of local tips. Throw in white-sand beaches, golf, upscale
shopping and world-class dining, and you’ve got the makings for a perfect
getaway
Located southwest of Hilton Head Island, Daufuskie Island is a very special destination for people in the know. A variety of accommodations options, creative dining, a soothing spa, world-class golf and tennis, and much more await lucky visitors to Daufuskie Island Resort & Breathe Spa. A night (or a week) here would make for a great way to end an exploration of Port Royal Sound.
