Charleston, South Carolina -- Charleston Food & Wine Festival

There is no better combination of food, wine, and southern hospitality than in Charleston, South Carolina. And that was no more evident than at the 2nd Annual Charleston Food + Wine Festival held this past March.

Combining Lowcountry cuisine and culture with a cornucopia of creative chefs and restaurants made for a platter of events that pleased any foodie or wine snob.

Charleston Cooks! Culinary Village was the heart (and some would say stomach) of the event featuring more than 70 culinary-related businesses, including top restaurants, food purveyors, wineries from around the world, culinary merchandise, and more. Events also included food related seminars, cookbook author signings, wine tastings and Charleston’s own version of ‘Top Chef’ (hosted by Food Networks’ Tyler Florence).

Specialty events included: The Salute to Charleston Chefs 2007 Opening Reception featuring top Charleston’s chefs preparing signature dishes; The Restaurant Dine-Around treating participants to phenomenal meals at famed Charleston restaurants like Circa 1886, High Cotton, Oak Steakhouse, Slightly North of Broad, Peninsula Grill, Cypress, and Magnolia’s; and Bubbles & Sweets, which featured fine champagne and delectable desserts prepared by several area and nationally-known pastry chefs.

Specifically wine-oriented events included: Winemaker Receptions in Private Historic Homes; on- and off-site wine seminars covering a wide variety of topics (and wines); and an Art & Wine Reception at the Gibbes Museum of Art.

Other highlights included a Saturday Night Celebration (a Lowcountry party), the Lowcountry Gospel Brunch; and BBQ Blues & Brews (featuring southern barbeque and music by Chef Fatback and the Groove Band).

With a delectable serving like this, you can be sure that we already have next years’ Charleston Food + Wine Festival on our calendar (February 28 - March 2, 2008)
