Texas public course touts new Audubon International Signature Certification

Just two years after opening, Arlington’s Tierra Verde golf course has been awarded Audubon International Signature Certification, making it the first course in Texas to receive the honor.

The complete story

Tierra Verde, a public course operated by the City of Arlington, opened in November of 1998 with the environment in mind. Water, wildlife, wildflowers, and other native vegetation thrive on the layout’s 256 acres, living in harmony with the golfers who enjoy the natural surroundings.

The certification is awarded to developments that are designed, constructed, and maintained using Audubon International’s “Planning Standards and Environmental Principles of Sustainable Resource Management,” which include wildlife conservation, habitat management, water quality management, water conservation, and more.

Greg Durante, golf programs manager for the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, says Tierra Verde was designed to compete with any private course in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. “This venue is unlike any other city golf course,” he states. “It can compete with any privately-owned, top-end facility in North Texas.”

The course was actually designed in partnership with Audubon International by award-winning design firm, Graham & Parks International. The certification is an honor that was just a matter of Mother Nature agreeing with the golf gods.
