Drive, chip, and putt into the New Year

The Fort Lauderdale area is hosting a unique New Year’s Eve Golf Tournament that is drawing “in-the-dark” golfers from near and far.

This first-ever event offers an unusual ‘link’ to 2001 for golfers, with lots of related events leading to a fun evening on and off the links.

The complete story

Golf ranks only slightly behind beaches when it comes to Fort Lauderdale attractions. The area is golf-crazy and this event proves it.

“Greater Fort Lauderdale is the perfect place to ring in the New Year and play golf, so why not do both at the same time,” says Nicki E. Grossman, president of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Held at The Club at Emerald Hills in Hollywood as part of Broward County’s “Immerse Yourself in Celebration” millennium program, the event will take place on two nine-hole par three courses. Most of the holes will be lit for night play, but those that aren’t will feature glow-in-the-dark golf balls!

From far and near, both golfers ($300) and non-golfers ($200) are signing up for the event, which is limited to 144 golfers. Along with the unique golf opportunity, there will be a cocktail reception, live music, silent and live auctions, golf demonstrations, a fashion show, and more. There will even be qualified day-care from United Way agencies for children between three and 12. All proceeds will benefit the United Way.

The Fort Lauderdale area has a wide range of accommodations options, including many golf resorts for those who want even more than midnight fairways and greens.
