New Tahoe-area course has golfers howling with pleasure

Surrounded by the snowcapped Sierras, the new Coyote Moon Golf Course is one of the most anticipated public golf courses to open in the Lake Tahoe area in years.

Opening this month and staying open through the end of October, Coyote Moon is located in the historic old west town of Truckee, California, just 15 minutes from the shores of Lake Tahoe and easily accessible from both Sacramento (90 minutes) and Reno (35 minutes).

The complete story

An ideal destination for visitors to the Lake Tahoe resort area, Coyote Moon is situated at 6,300 feet above sea level in 250 acres of secluded pines. This additional elevation typically adds 6-10% in distance, so it’s normal to hit one club less than you would at most courses closer to sea level.

Designer and former PGA Tour Player Brad Bell has done a breathtaking job of winding a championship course through the majestic pines, leaving players ample room for shotmaking and solitude.

Drives bring large landing areas and only a few forced carries, with fairways typically funneling down to medium-sized undulating greens that are well-protected by trees, sand, and water. Towering pines, enormous granite outcroppings, and Trout Creek all add dramatic elements of risk.

Given the great golf and setting, Coyote Moon is sure to quickly become a Sierra classic that is a ‘must-play’ in the Tahoe area.
