Washington-area golf shop suits women to a tee

Female travelers and residents in the nation’s capital region don’t have to hit the links to enjoy the game of golf.

The complete story

Golf store for women now open near Washington, D.C.

Female golfers (and golf travelers) are a growing part of the golf industry and the Ladies Clubhouse at the Washington Golf Center fits them like a golf glove. Though it’s technically part of the Golf Center’s popular 30,000-square foot ‘superstore,’ the Ladies Clubhouse has a separate in-store entrance, separate staff, and a boutique feel.

The Ladies Clubhouse opened it's doors just in time for Mother's Day last year (it’s also popular with men looking for that perfect gift) and it’s already a huge hit with the female fore set. “It was our vision to make a place for the serious lady golfer to come for all her needs, while at the same time creating a comfortable haven for those female golfers just starting to play this great game,” says Jane Chay Chen, a company vice-president and the brains behind the concept.

By offering the major pro-line clubs like Cobra, Callaway and Taylor, the serious golfer can find the industry’s hottest equipment. However, what has truly set the Ladies Clubhouse apart is their commitment to those manufacturers that have distinguished themselves directly in the ladies’ golf market.

Nancy Lopez Golf, Square Two Golf, and LaJolla Golf see the women’s market for what it is--the fastest growing segment of the golf equipment and clothing market. Their attention to custom fitting and designing clubs that are right for female golfers is one of the key elements that has been missing in the golf market.

Along with clubs and other equipment, the Ladies Clubhouse has a huge line of clothing that is great for golf. While they do offer some standard links wear, they also feature versatile and creative apparel from Babe Didrickson, Bette & Court, Tehama, and Ashworth.

The helpful staff can provide specific guidance about equipment, clothing, as well as D.C.-area courses where women aren’t treated like second-class citizens on and off the greens.

The Ladies Clubhouse is located at 2625 Shirlington Road in Arlington, Virginia 22206. Their phone number is (703) 521-GOLF (4653).
