West Virginia State Travel Guide '07....

HAPPY CAMPERS

Quite simply, a camper or an RV provides a great way to see all that the Mountain State has to offer. From small family-owned campgrounds to a wide variety of state parks and forests and other public campgrounds that welcome RVers, West Virginia and camping are a match made in heaven.

Camping allows for an enjoyable and often economical getaway to the great outdoors. Whether heading out for a hike or simply sitting by a fire, campers immerse themselves in Mother Nature’s best in West Virginia.

A wild and wonderful state parks and forests system provides a great place to start a camping adventure of any length. Some perennial favorites include: Beech Fork State Park (super lake fishing); Blackwater Falls State Park (stunning waterfalls); Canaan Valley Resort (year-round mountain recreation); Pipestem Resort (golf and other outdoor recreation); Stonewall Resort (golf and watersports); and Twin Falls Resort (lots of hiking trails). With more than two dozen possibilities with varying amenities, it’s easy to see why state parks and forests are so popular with the RV set. Other possibilities include lots of federally operated campgrounds (mostly in national forests), as well as city and county municipal offerings (such as the West Virginia State Fairgrounds in Lewisburg--home of the State Fair of West Virginia).

The state also features more than a hundred commercial campgrounds with a wide variety of offerings and settings from the Ashland KOA that’s close to the Hatfield-McCoy Trails to many friendly, family-run operations where RVers return annually.

Each year also brings new possibilities to RVers in West Virginia, with additional facilities, new amenities and even totally new campgrounds. For instance, the new and conveniently located Flatwoods RV Park features paved sites and offers RVers full use of the facilities at the adjacent Sutton/Flatwoods Days Inn & Conference Center.

Given all of this, it’s easy to see why West Virginia and camping continue to be a match made in heaven. RVers, start your engines!
