Caribbean Travel & Life....
SWINGING IN SAN JUAN
The
Boys of Summer hit the beach as major league baseball comes to Puerto Rico
this season. It's a dream come true for fans, who can now combine a
Caribbean getaway with a chance to see their favorite big-leaguers in action.
The Montreal Expos, including their Dominican Republic-born superstar,
Vladimir Guerrero, are scheduled to play 22 of their games in San Juan's
Hiram Bithorn Stadium. Bithorn is the home field of the popular Santurce
Crabbers of Puerto Ricos winter league, but this summer it will see
the world's top talent as the Expos play host to the Texas Rangers, Florida
Marlins, Chicago Cubs and defending world champions, the Anaheim Angels.
Several hotels are offering special packages to baseball fans. The official team hotel is the Wyndham El San Juan Hotel & Casino (787-791-1000; www.wyndham.com). Tickets are available at www.ticketpop.com. For information on the Caribbean baseball series, visit www.mlb.com and www.gotopuertorico.com.
